New Zealand

Golf at the edge of the map

Te Arai's two courses on one stretch of Northland coast, Cape Kidnappers and Kauri Cliffs for the drama. A short list, all of it worth the flight.

New Zealand is a two-week country played in one week if you plan it properly. The Northland sand at Te Arai — Coore and Crenshaw's South, Doak's North — is the most concentrated run of modern architecture anywhere outside the United States, and both courses take visitors. Add Cape Kidnappers on the way south and you have a trip most golfers only see in photographs. Tee times are limited and move slowly; this is the destination that most rewards booking eighteen months out.
